The rule behind SafeSport and MAAPP is a simple one: no adult and minor alone where no one else can see. It protects the athlete. It protects the coach just as much.
What “in the open” looks like

What it flags
The moment something
falls outside it.
Oversight reads the shape of a conversation: how many messages came after hours, which channels are closed. You start with the signal, not the words, and open a thread only when something’s flagged.
A channel that shouldn’t be closed
A coach and an athlete, one-on-one. The structure is flagged the moment it forms. No one has to report it.
Off-hours contact
A count of messages sent between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. A number that says “look here,” not a transcript.
Language meant to stay hidden
Patterns that suggest hiding a thread from a parent or a second adult, counted, never quoted.
Optional AI signals
An optional layer can flag conversation patterns worth a closer look, surfaced to one named administrator to review. A prompt for a person to decide, never an automated judgment about anyone.
